We are happy to announce the cast of Smoke on the Mountain!
Kyle Van Frank (Pastor Oglethorpe) is a rising Junior Musical Theatre major with a double minor in Spanish and Political Science, from Memphis, TN. Past UA credits include Falsettos (Jason), Arcadia (Mr. Noakes) and The Philadelphia Story (Dr. Parsons). Other favorite credits include The Government Inspector (Khlestakov) Hairspray (Corny Collins) and Oklahoma! (Will Parker). When not on the stage, Kyle can be found playing piano, gardening, or watching The Office. Kyle would like to thank the cast, crew and all of you for your unwavering support.
Tom Alsip (Burl Sanders) is the third year MFA Directing candidate at the University of Alabama. Originally from Mobile, Tom spent 10 years working as an actor in NYC and was a part of the national tours of Jesus Christ Superstar and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the original cast recording of When Push Comes to Shove and numerous other regional productions and NYC-based readings and festival shows. In addition to acting, Tom has worked as an educator and director. His UA credits include Doubt and La Ronde and he served as the co-director for Seth Panitch’s Off-Broadway musical Here I Sit Broken Hearted: A Bathroom Odyssey. Tom is thrilled to be back on stage working with an amazing cast and creative team.
Chelsea Reynolds (Vera Sanders) hails from Gulf Breeze, FL. Member of SAG-AFTRA. MFA ’17 Graduate, University of Alabama. UA credits include: The Eccentricities of a Nightingale (Alma), 42nd Street (Dorothy), Young Frankenstein (Elizabeth), Appropriate (Rachael). Other selected regional credits include: Fool For Love (May), Oleanna (Carol), The Last Five Years (Cathy), The Marvelous Wonderettes (Missy), Side Show (Violet). All thanks to God, Chris, her family, and Dolly Parton. Special thanks to Stacy Alley for the opportunity to perform back on her beloved Gulf Coast, Terry Moore, and to a wonderful cast and crew. Ally Bryant (Denise Sanders) a rising Sophomore Musical Theatre and Philosophy double major. Previous credits include The Marvelous Wonderettes (Cindy Lou), Les Miserables (Eponine), Bye Bye Birdie (Kim MacAfee), John Lennon & Me (Courtney Cambridge) and The Merry Widow (Natalie).
Daniel Baskins (Dennis Sanders) is thrilled to be a part of his first professional show. He is a rising Sophomore Musical Theatre and Communicative Disorders major. Other credits include Tarzan, Zombie Prom, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, and Bye Bye Birdie. Daniel would like to thank Stacy and Terry for this incredible opportunity. To God be the glory. Anne Dillon Loflin (June Sanders) is a rising Sophomore Musical Theatre major from Huntsville, AL and is so excited to be a part of Smoke on the Mountain. Previous credits include The Philadelphia Story (Tracy U/S, Ensemble), Legally Blonde: the Musical (Elle Woods), Once Upon a Mattress (Princess Winnifred). She would like to thank Stacy and Terry for this fun opportunity, the cast for being her best friends, and her camp band, the Black Mountain Oysters for inspiring her love for the washboard!
William Green (Stanley Sanders) is a rising third year MFA Acting candidate from Mobile, AL. Previous UA credits include A Chorus Line (Zach), Ghosts (Jacob Engstrand), Young Frankenstein (The Monster) and Tartuffe (Cleante). Other credits include: Jekyll & Hyde (Jekyll/Hyde), Man Of La Mancha (Quixote), To Kill A Mockingbird (Atticus), City Of Angels (Stone), Clybourne Park (Russ), The Secret Garden (Archibald), All The King’s Men (Willie) and Twelfth Night.
Joshua Green (Guitar/Banjo/Mandolin) is a musician and actor from Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Jefferson State Community College as a music student on a full-tuition choral scholarship. He performs regularly in Birmingham with such groups as Margeaux and The Cat’s Meow, The Dill Pickers, and Roots2Grass. Acting credits include Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Tommy Allsup), Smoke on the Mountain (Dennis Sanders) and most recently as the lead role in “The Perfect Woman” a short film produced by Belflower Films.
Steve Walch (Bass) studied Jazz Studies at the University of Alabama. He became principal bass player of the Huxford Symphony Orchestra, the UA Jazz Ensemble, and the UA Jazz Standards Combo in 2015. He wrote all original arrangements and one original composition for his junior recital, and shortly after formed the Medicine Men, a jazz-fusion and blues project that focuses on his original compositions. He has also been playing gospel music on the electric bass for the Beaulah Baptist Church in Northport, AL every Sunday for 3 years, and currently plays with country/folk group the Matt Jones Band.
